Who we are
STAND Canada is the leading national youth-based organization dedicated to inspiring activism and advocacy addressing genocide. Born of a student-led initiative at the University of Western Ontario, Stand now has 20 University chapters and 45 High School chapters, and we are still growing! Together, we work to mobilize a critical mass of Canadians and advocate for our government to make stopping genocide a cornerstone of Canadian foreign policy.
What we do
Since 2005, STAND Canada has played a key role in educating Canadians on the crisis, organizing events, training young leaders, and spurring action on Parliament Hill. We believe that every Canadian can act against genocide and we work to make it easy to act. Working both independently and in concert with our NGO partners, we have briefed officials at Foreign Affairs, liaised with MPs and members of the government, traveled to Sudan, organized rallies and press conferences, and helped organize a non-partisan coalition of MPs committed to stronger Canadian action on Darfur. Most recently, Stand Canada organized a successful federal election campaign to create awareness about the crisis and identify Darfur as an election issue, educating and inspiring hundreds of candidates to support ending the genocide.
